Annemieke’s name is synonymous with organic farming in Zambia. She was one of the first to start growing organic produce and was the driving force behind creating a local market for organic vegetables in Zambia.
She holds a degree in Plant Breeding, Disease Resistance and the Tropics from the Agricultural University of the Netherlands. She first arrived in Zambia in 1994 as a young plant pathologist working on a project with an Aqua-Farms Organization (AFO) She fell in love with Zambia and made it her home since.
Annemieke is also one of the founding board members of OPPAZ which is the Organic Producers and Processors Association Zambia where she served for seven years. She is also a co-founder of Ubumi PGS Zambia, which was established in January 2022.
Over the years she has sold her organic produce at various markets and supermarkets. She runs a veggie box business and an eco-friendly shop called Greens & Grains, where she sells her fresh produce together with produce from other organic and conventional farmers.
Following a site visit and inspection of the Green Fox farm in Lilayi by the Ubumi PGS stakeholders, on the 7th of May 2022, Annemieke de Vos signed a declaration affirming to adhere to the organic standards of farming, as outlined by the IOFAM Basic Standards for Organic Agriculture.
The certification is to be renewed annually pending a successful inspection by a designated committee of Ubumi PGS.
Green Fox Ltd is the first farm in Zambia to receive the peer-reviewed organic certification.
