Did you know?
The sweet, juicy, bright-red strawberry is actually not really a fruit in the botanical sense but a swelling of the plant’s stalks that occurs after the flowers are pollinated. The real fruits are the 200 seeds, called achene, that cover the berry’s surface.
Storing Strawberries
Do not wash the strawberries if you're storing them in the fridge. Strawberries are like sponges that soak up every bit of moisture, and the more water they soak up, the more quickly they'll spoil. Don't store the strawberries in the plastic containers they came in. The plastic containers won't let in any air and will make the strawberries spoil faster. Try to remove moisture from the fruits using a paper towel. Keep the strawberries in a container that allows air circulation.
